RFM Charity Golf Day 2018 – undefeated by Storm Callum

On Friday 12th October 2018, over 60 members of the rail industry gathered at the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club to raise money for Railway Children.

Rail Forum Midlands have once again exceeded all expectations with their Annual Charity Golf Day. This year, Ford & Stanley teamed up with Loram to host two teams at the charity event.

The day began with a complimentary bacon roll (or two) and a much-needed cup of coffee as we greeted our fellow team members and discussed how much we had practiced …

With the last-minute opportunity to practice outside – we got a view of our competition and more importantly, realised the severity of the Storm we were about to face!

As sponsors of the Halfway House, Ford & Stanley provided snacks, water and branded gifts – not to mention a bit of shelter for the players! Positioned by the 9th hole, we had the great opportunity to chat to all of the 17 teams braving Storm Callum – both old friends and new faces alike.

After a long day in the torrential rain and powerful winds, we were all treated to a gorgeous hot meal and a great opportunity to mix with the rest of the players.

Good things come in threes!

After our meal, it was time for the winners to be announced – and Ford & Stanley were not disappointed!

First of all, the Best Individual Round was presented to Dean Humphreys of our Ford & Stanley and Loram team! We were then pleasantly surprised to hear that the same team then were given 3rd place prize! To top it all off – we were especially proud when the announcement came that our second Ford & Stanley team came in 2nd place!

All for a great cause

Rounding the day off with a poignant talk, Railway Children highlighted the importance of charity events such as the RFM Annual Golf Day and the impact the money raised will have on disadvantaged children across the globe.

We would like to say a final thank you to Rail Forum Midlands, and congratulations to the winning team – Inside Out Group and Yellow Group, winners of the Neil Harvey Memorial Trophy. Well done to all !

Raising over £2,500 for Railway Children – it’s fair to say the extreme weather did not affect the success of the day.
